Autumn

In autumn, the mountains offer some stunning vistas. As the first snowflakes begin to fall and the sun sets lower in the sky, temperatures drop and the snowline creeps closer to the valleys. The trees on the mountain slopes take on splendid autumn colours. Ski areas located around the glaciers often open as soon as the first real snow has fallen.

You will see the farmers preparing their land for winter. The gates in the meadows are collapsed in preparation for the snowfall. The cows are led back to the valley where they will spend the winter in farm stables. The mountain huts are prepared for winter, the slopes get some long-overdue maintenance and many thousands of snow cannons are put into working order.
Restaurants and private homes get a thorough cleaning and necessary repairs are carried out, while the children attend school. The locals may even have time to enjoy a few days of well-deserved rest or vacation during this period. Traditional Alpine villages, in other words, with great unique charm.
